Pros Civilization has evolved over thousands of years; traditions have been forged by the test of time. They are, however, as fragile as a dream and, as any memory, can be lost and forgotten. Unfortunately, there is much truth to the idea that those who can't remember the past are condemned to repeat it. Being with the in-crowd, buying the top ten music videos, and wearing the latest fashions are financially and ethically expensive. A fad is temporary. But tradition provides meaning to sustain an entire life. |

Cons Pop culture is not bad; it is life in the very dynamic, creative present. People who fear and condemn the newest fads have forgotten how to live. The "Mona Lisa" may have been fine for the Renaissance, but "Mona Gorilla" is more exciting and vibrant today. Let's face it, life is better now than it was a thousand or even ten years ago. People who are burdened by tradition are afraid of life. It is a pretty exciting time. New things are going to happen; let's get on with it! |
