Pros The motion picture industry has a tremendous impact on our society. This places a significant responsibility on those men and women who write the scripts. Their choice of subject, plot, and language will influence the audience. Films with violent, graphic content and vulgar language will be reflected in the behavior of ordinary people in their homes, schools, and businesses. People who watch violent films become violent. At the very least they become desensitized to violence and become blind to an increasingly uncivilized world. |

Cons While the argument is hidden behind a concern for a "better" society, the issue is nothing less than censorship. Freedom of expression is vital to a healthy society. Important subjects are not always pleasant, but that does not end the writer's responsibility to bring society's attention to these issues. It is only by bringing problems out into the open for discussion that we may hope to resolve them. Sticking one's head in the sand will only perpetuate an uncivilized world. |
